subway: Day 14, Cappy

Did fine with my final day, but like Cory, I ate more than what was called for to eat up stuff before it spoiled.  Here's the stats:

FINAL RATINGS
--EFFECTIVENESS: C
Did it work for weight loss?  I have not lost more than a couple of pounds since we started all of this a month ago.  I think it's been pretty obvious how frustrated I've been.  So no, it wasn't particularly effective for weight loss, for me.  Although, I might have lost more weight staying on it longer, but we won't know this time around.
--EASE OF USE: A
Was the food easy to obtain and prepare and take to work and adapt to the everyday? Extremely easy, which was one of the things I loved about this diet.  There's a Subway just down the road from where I work, so I just frequented there every other day, bought a foot-long veggie sub, and ate one half one day, the second half the next day.  And I bought sandwich stuff and veggies to eat while at home.  Soooo easy.
--ENERGY LEVELS: B
Were energy levels high, or did it make us feel weak or tired? I didn't really notice a difference for me, either way.
--HUNGER FULFILLMENT AND CRAVINGS:  B-
Were hunger levels and cravings reasonable, or terrible?  They weren't bad, but I did have some cravings.  I think those cravings were due more to my frustrations at not having lost any weight, rather than a lack of anything on the diet.
--OVERALL :  B
How was it overall?  I liked it quite a bit.  I could see myself doing this for quite a while, if I were to start losing weight on it.
Would I do it again?  Yes.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Final Rating, Day 14, Cory

I did alright on my last day.  I mixed it up some, because I wanted to eat up the fruit and veggies that were older and were gonna go bad.  So I had a small sandwich instead of a sub at dinner, and then had two pieces of fruit for the day, instead of one.  I'm gonna finish up the milk before bed - i.e., have two glasses of milk today, instead of my usual one.  But that's gotta get used up too.  Did my usual exercise bike stuff, no problema.

FINAL RATINGS

--EFFECTIVENESS: B
Did it work for weight loss? I think this was a little faster than the Slimfast, but still nothing dramatic.  Makes sense as it is more restrictive and less sugary.  Also, I confess I never get on the scale, and judge solely by the way my clothes fit - so grain of salt on my judgment here. (I have a tendency to obsess about the numbers, so I do better just not knowing the numbers.)

--EASE OF USE: A++
Was the food easy to obtain and prepare and take to work and adapt to the everyday? I said last week that it would be hard to be easier than the Slimfast diet, but actually, this was easier.  I mean - cereal in the morning, sandwiches for lunch and dinner.  It could not be easier unless Cappy prepared my sandwiches for me.

--ENERGY LEVELS: B
Were energy levels high, or did it make us feel weak or tired? No problem in this area.  Same as last week: I never felt weak or faint from the diet, or anything like that.  I wouldn't say I had "more energy" than usual, but I definitely didn't have less.

--HUNGER FULFILLMENT AND CRAVINGS:  C
Were hunger levels and cravings reasonable, or terrible?  I don't know if it is because I am into the 3rd and 4th week, or because of the more restrictive fare, but I did have a harder time with cravings, and twice had a light "midnight snack" so I could stop feeling so hungry and get some sleep.

--OVERALL :  B
How was it overall?  I liked it better the first week than the second week, when I was getting really tired of the same-old, same-old.  I can't imagine how Jared did this for over a year!

Would I do it again?  Yes, after I gave it some time.  I mean, I was bored with the subs, and don't feel like going back to subs for awhile.  And if I did it again, I'd be likely to do it for one week, instead of two.

NEXT UP!

We've decided on the Peanut Butter diet - see my Day 13 post and comment for info.

Subway: Day 13, Cappy

Diet went about the same today (no Frosty today!), although I still didn't eat as much veggies as I should have.  I really need to start eating them up or they're going to spoil here soon.  I spent a lot of time working on the computer today, so that kept me distracted from thinking of cheating on the diet.

I went for a walk late this afternoon, but did not do any workout dvds.

I need to remember to make a grocery lis and head for the store tomorrow.  I've got a lot going on around here right now and worrying about a lot of stuff, so I keep forgetting.

Cory, I need to get my mojo back so that I can begin picking on you again!  I'm sure you've been really missing it.

Happymaker of the day:  Sloooowly learning my new vid editing software.  Hey, I know more now than I did 24 hours ago, so that's something.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 13, Cory

I did fine on the diet today - went light on the veggies again, because I am running low.  Am going shopping tomorrow.  I made myself a shopping list, for the upcoming week.

Did the usual exercise.

More snow today, and more snow expected next week.   It's relentless this year!  I'm not usually such a downer about winter, but I've kinda had it, with this one.

Am looking forward to starting the new diet!

Cappy: Hope you got some rest.

Subway: Day 12, Cappy

Diet went great today until I caved on my way home from work and bought a small Frosty from Wendy's.  *sigh*  It's been a really rough week, and I let my weaknesses take over.  There's no excuse for it.  I've just got to try to do better tomorrow.

And I did not exercise today.  That's definitely got to change, as well.  Nothing positive is going to happen if I don't put the effort into it, I know that.

Sorry I've been such a bad buddy this week, Cory.  I promise I'll try to do better next week.  I'm proud of you for how well you're doing!  Keep up the good work. :)

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 12, Cory

Had another "I'm too hungry night" last night and ate a small snack (piece of lunch meat with piece of bread) before bed.  So I guess that's not great, but my calorie count is still in the "lose weight" column, just not as fast, when I do that.

Today, I am doing OK so far.  I didn't eat my fruit at lunchtime, so if I get hungry tonight, I'll eat that piece of fruit, instead of adding an extra item.  That may be a better strategy for me - save something for before bed, so I don't get that "I can't sleep from feeling hungry" feeling.

We've decided on the "Peanut Butter diet" for the next two weeks.  I'll make a comment under this post that describes it.  Basically, you get 4tbs of PB a day, and eat healthy foods around that.  It appealed to me mostly cause I like Peanut Butter, and it sounded like a nice break in what we have been doing.

Did my exercise, as usual.

Snow, snow, snow! Gray days and snow.  Not the greatest weather to be trying to deal with changing eating habits, but hey, you can't wait for it to be perfect, right?

Subway: Day 11, Cappy

Diet went fine again today, though I didn't eat as much veggies as I should have.

I did the less strenuous workout for 30 minutes this afternoon.

Cory, I did not get a chance to look at the diet links--I promise I will let you know by the end of the night tomorrow night what sounds good to me.

Still trudging along with this whole bad-moody thing.  Hopefully getting to sleep late this weekend will help me snap out of it.

Happymaker of the day:  Watching episodes of Gilmore Girls.  If doing a GG marathon this weekend doesn't get me out of this bad funk, nothing will.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 11, Cory

Well, I woke up in the middle of the night last night, and felt so hungry that I couldn't get back to sleep.  So I got up and had a piece of bread and a little cheese.  I'd guess about a 200 cal snack, which did the trick.  I went to sleep.

I am getting low on the veggies, and had my dinner sub without the veggies tonight.  I just don't want to buy more fresh veggies without being sure what we're doing next week, so I think I'm gonna do one sub with veggies, one without, for the remaining 3 days.  This should use up all the fresh veggies in time for me to buy new.

Did my exercise and diet just fine so far today (after my indiscretion last night, I have to add the "so far!").

Cappy, how are your cute little dogs dealing with you eating less?  My even-cuter doggie isn't getting as many treats from me, so I don't think he's too thrilled.  I think he would like me to go on an all bacon diet.  -- Cory

Subway: Day 10, Cappy

Quickie post today because I am exhausted and need to go to bed.

Diet went fine, no problems today.

Went for a bit of a walk as exercise, even though it's quite chilly and windy.

Happymaker of the day:  still looking for it. :P

Corry--I'm going to try to look at the diet links tomorrow.  Is there any diet you had a hankering for?

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 10, Cory

Same-same, on the diet, exercise.

I had an upset stomach and some nausea today, I don't really know why, so it wasn't hard to avoid over-eating.  I think I drank too much coffee or something; I don't think it was related to the diet.

Four more days!  And then we'll be on to something new!

As far as the long term goes, I do think that both the Slimfast and the Subway diet, the way we approached them, are helping me get used to eating sensibly and avoiding extras.

Subway: Day 9, Cappy

Had another bad day.  Just a lot of minor things that are all adding up and weighing me down, and my moods are being all swingy.  Unfortunately, my diet did suffer for it today--I ate leftover hamburger helper for lunch, along with chips and salsa.  But, I had really been craving fast food and I opted to eat this instead because I knew it'd be healthier than fast food, so I didn't fall completely off the wagon.  Plus, it was just for one meal and I got back to eating diet stuff for supper tonight.

I'm feeling pretty frustrated because I keep going back and forth between these two pounds--the same two pounds that I thought I had lost from a week and a half ago.  I know I shouldn't let the scale get me down, but I really had thought I would have lost something after almost 4 weeks on the diet.  Even if I'm not exercising as much as I should be (and I once again didn't work out today), I would think I'd still be losing a small amount of weight.  It's discouraging to think I could just be eating the same things I was eating before and not exercising and still weigh the same amount I weigh now.

Am just feeling disgustipated with life in general, and myself specifically, right now.  Hopefully I'll get out of this funk soon.  I'm working on it.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 9, Cory

Nothing really new with the diet, or the exercise - did the diet, did the 45 min.

I had my dinner - which again consisted of a "nothing but cheese" sub, veggies as a small salad with light dressing on the side.  Have just been craving cheese sandwiches for some reason, so that does the trick, and stays within in spirit of the diet.

Anyhoo, had my dinner right before the meeting with the refreshments, and wasn't tempted at all.  I had a small cup of coffee, but didn't reach for the cookies or crackers and other snacks.

I need some sleep tonight!  Wish me luck! (I shoulda notta had that cuppa coffee.)

--Cory

SUBWAY: Day 8, Cory

Well, I got kinda bored with the subs so I made a cheese sandwich instead - I used my sub bun, a moderate amount (probably about 100 cal worth, according to the label) of cheese, and that's it.  I just felt like a plain cheese sandwich.  I'm going to have the veggies later as a light salad/snack.

I did my 45 minutes of stationary biking, no problem.

I have a meeting to go to tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm - where there will be refreshments.  So I have to be smart about timing my eating and such.  I will probably make my evening sub ahead of time - same time I make my lunch sub - so I have plenty of time to get home, change, eat my dinner, and head out to the meeting.

I was proud of myself today because I went out to eat with some of my pals at the office - but I had already eaten my sub . . . so I just had coffee and socialized, and it wasn't particularly hard.

HAPPYMAKER: Helping a gal-pal get over a disappointment.  Guy stuff.  Sigh. Why must they be so cute?

Subway: Day 8, Cappy

Posting early tonight because I plan to curl up in bed and watch tv until I fall asleep.

I had a bad day, mentally and emotionally.  Nothing in particular happened, just a lot of little things making me feel cranky and overwhelmed.  But, I easily stuck to the diet.  I think I'm going to miss the food when we move onto another diet.  This one is just so yummy and easy.

I took the day off from exercising just to give my knee a day's break.  Thankfully, it hasn't hurt at all today, so I think I'll be fine getting back to my workout tomorrow.  I may even go out for a walk as well, either in the morning or at lunch tomorrow.  Getting out in the fresh air always seems to help lighten my mood a bit.

Happymaker of the day:  Um, that it's almost over?

Subway: Day 7, Cappy

I never realized before how much of a sandwich person I really am.  I could do this Subway thing indefinitely, I think, especially if I change it up some.  It's got protein, carbs, and veggies, all in one handy item.  Plus, it's soooo easy--no cooking at all, unless I want some steamed veggies on the side.  What's not to love?

I could only do a half hour workout today, though.  The extra exercising yesterday really did a number on my knee--when I tried to do the second workout today my knee started to hurt within the first 5 minutes, and rather than pushing it too far and hurting myself to the point of having to rest and not exercise at all for a week or two, I decided to stop it.  I may end up doing the double workout every other day, and just doing the one workout all other days, for a while at least.  That way I'm hopefully not messing my knee up.

Happymaker of the day:  Giving a friend a present.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 7, Cory

Subs, subs, subs, subs!!  Yes, I have eaten 14 subs this week.  I don't believe I have ever eaten so many subs in such a short time.

But it is possible to have some variety with the subs, while keeping the contents high on veggies, and low on high calorie items.  I've used different kinds of buns, different meats, and various types of veggies and condiments.  So it's not as dull as it might sound.

I now have the exercise bike up to a truly noticeably higher resistance - got to my legs, in a good way.

I am thinking I will try real biking come spring, though it's been an awfully long time since I did that.  We'll see.

OK.  One more week of subs.  Cappy, we gotta start thinking about what's up next.

Subway: Day 6, Cappy

Diet went well again today.  I went grocery shopping to pick up next week's supplies, and I bought a box of low-fat vanilla wafers and also some new sugar free Jello pudding mousse packs.  I really need to have something sweet once a day to keep from feeling like I'm totally depriving myself.  It's an agreement I've made with myself--I can have one serving of something sweet that's also moderately healthy, as long as I stay on the diet throughout the rest of the day.  So far, it's been working good for me, I think.

I did two workouts today! \o/  So, that's an hour's worth of exercising.  Oy, am I tired.  But it's a good tired.  Hopefully my knee's not too messed up from it. *crosses fingers*

Happymaker of the day:  Receiving a nice thing in the mail, and finally exercising as much as I had planned.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 6, Cory

Same-same, as far as diet and exercise.

Went to the grocery store for next week's sub supplies, and bought some pepper jack cheese, thinking I will substitute some cheese for meat on some of the subs this week.

I was going to get eggs and bacon, to do that for breakfast instead of oatmeal, but I have a lot of berries left that are just gonna go bad . . . and I dunno.  I thought:  I'm having lunch meat type stuff twice a day, I don't need bacon in the morning.  So I'm sticking with the oatmeal.

Wore some corduroy pants today that have been snug, but they are now a nice fit.  So anyhow, there's not a dramatic difference, but there is a difference in the way my clothes are fitting.

I look forward to my pants falling off me. :)

SUBWAY: Day 5, Cory

Nothing new to report, dietwise.  Am still having a pretty easy time of sticking to the diet, and I'm not getting particularly hungry or filled with cravings.

Did my 45 min on the bike.  Increased the resistance again today.

This is just the easiest it's ever been for me.  I don't feel anxious about it and it's very day by day.  I'm doing it for me, and I'm doing it without a particular weight goal or deadline or motivation other than to take good care of myself.

I think that, and having this blog that allows me to have a partner in doing this, is part what makes it feel so simple.

--Cory

Subway: Day 5, Cappy

Once again, diet went well today.  Had my usual breakfast, 6-inch veggie sub for lunch (and they really shorted me on the veggies because the owner was standing there watching.  Stupid owner *puts on angry eyebrows*) with baked Lay's chips, baby carrots with salsa for a snack, banana for a second snack, and I just finished my turkey/veggie sandwich for supper.  Exceptionally good sandwich, by the by.

I did the more strenuous workout dvd for half an hour.  I'm hoping to increase my exercise time starting this weekend.  I'd like to continue doing the 30 minute dvd, but then adding on either 30 minutes of walking or 30 minutes of the less strenuous workout dvd.  Should be interesting to see how successful my lazy ass is in accomplishing this. ;D

Happymaker of the day:  Getting a new idea for a video to make and seeing a new interview with my favorite actor from my favorite show (back off, Cory!!). :D

Subway: Day 4, Cappy

Diet went well again today.  Except I drank too much coffee with creamer, and I'll definitely be paying for that tonight as I'm failing to fall asleep.

I didn't work out again today.  I just got busy and then kept putting it off.  I really need to get this whole procrastination and laziness thing under control. Ah well, tomorrow is another day......

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 4, Cory

Diet simple, no problema.  Exercise: another 45 on my stationary bike.

You know how it is when you really wanna get into some tight pants, but you just can't?

And I'm not talking 'bout when he just won't return your calls.

Nope, I'm talking about when the button on top of your own fave jeans just won't quite button!  Well, I have - wait - make that I HAD jeans like that.  Yes, that's right . . . they now button!  They are still a little snugger in the butt area than I like, but I mean, hey, I noticed actual progress!

Go, me!

I'll be getting into all the pants I want, anytime now. (No comments from the Cap-yap, please.)

Subway: Day 3, Cappy (TARDY POST IS TARDY!)

I GOT DISTRACTED LAST NIGHT AND TOTALLY FORGOT TO POST! *slaps self*

Okay, Wednesday was a good day, did not get hungry at all.  Breakfast was my usual oatmeal, egg beaters, green tea, had baby carrots with salsa as a mid-morning snack, had a veggie 6-inch for lunch with Baked Lay's chips, had a banana and coffee as an afternoon pick-me-up, and had a 6-inch turkey sub with veggies for supper, with a side salad and steamed veggies.  And graham crackers with green tea for dessert.

I did not work out on Wednesday because my knee was hurting a bit, and I didn't want to make it worse so I decided to give it a break.  I will be working out today (Thursday), though--my knee is feeling lots better.

SUBWAY: Day 3, Cory

Zero problem staying on the diet today, though I am looking forward to seeing if an egg/bacon breakfast next week does a better job of keeping me from getting so hungry by lunchtime, than the oatmeal is doing.  The oatmeal is doing better than the one can o' Slimfast, though.

I did my usual 45 minutes on the bike.

I like how easy this diet is, too - hardly any cooking involved.

Am having some trying times, but somehow, the stress isn't giving me that "I could use some food for comfort" thing.  I guess things are changing for me on some level that has little to do with this diet.  But that part is a good thing, surely.

Subway: Day 2, Cappy

Had my normal combo of oatmeal and scrambled egg beaters with green tea this morning.  Oh, how I've missed having my normal breakfast.  It's yummy, and keeps me satisfied until lunch time, most days.

Had a 6-inch veggie delite sub from Subway, with baked Lay's potato chips.  I got two triangles of pepperjack cheese on it, even though technically I'm not supposed to.  But, I told myself I could get either cheese or the low-cal mayo, but not both.  So, I'm proud I chose the cheese. ;D

I had a banana and a slimfast 100 calorie bar for an afternoon snack.

Supper was a turkey sandwich that I made here at home with a side of steamed veggies and with two graham crackers and green tea as dessert.

I did the harder workout dvd this evening.  It's very slowly but surely getting easier each time I do it.  I just keep telling myself the only way it'll get easier is if I keep doing it.

So far, I'm feeling much more satisfied with this diet.  I haven't been feeling the low-blood sugar hunger weakness and such, probably because there's more carbs with this diet, I guess.  And I've had more energy, so far.  Hopefully, this all will continue.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 2, Cory

Ah, breakfast, how I missed you!  Yes, I continue to revel in the wonderfulness of having a regular breakfast, after two weeks of nothing but that Slimfast chocolate drink.  I've been having a packet of regular, unflavored instant oatmeal every morning - that I flavor myself with 1tbs of brown sugar and 1tbs of plain, unsweetened cocoa.  I add a handful of raspberries, and yum!

I'm thinking next week of switching to a small egg and bacon breakfast instead, to switch it up a bit.  The lunch and dinner subs, with their 6" whole wheat buns, are already giving me grains.

I like my homemade subs - I pile on the fresh veggies and add some mustard and hot pepper rings and it's, as Alton Brown might say, GOOD EATS!!

Did my 45 minutes on the bike, no problem, while watching the "Inca Mummy Girl" episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Time flies by when you're watching a beautiful young girl who stays young by literally sucking the life out of any guy she kisses.  Wow.  Talk about being needy.

Subway, Day 1, Cappy

I ate a bowl of oatmeal and 1 egg's worth of egg beaters for breakfast.  Drank coffee as a mid-morning snack, along with an apple.  For lunch and supper I made my own turkey sandwiches with veggies, since the weather was bad and I didn't want to bother going out to buy Subway.  And had raisins for an afternoon snack, along with more coffee.

For dessert tonight I ate a chocolate pudding snack.  I was going to eat yogurt, but realized that the yogurt I had was pretty far gone expired. ;D

I do plan on eating a salad with at least one meal, and steamed veggies with at least one meal, but today was kind of hectic, so I didn't take the time to eat those things.

I did take the time to do my strenuous workout dvd for half an hour, though.  Go me! \o/

Happymaker of the day:  SNOWWWW!  And not being killed by idiotic drivers on the road during said snow.

Cappy

SUBWAY: Day 1, Cory

Well, mostly, it was fun to move on to something new.  I was MUCH happier with a real breakfast, than my "one can of Slimfast," and calorie count was approximately the same.  I didn't have a mid-morning snack, but I didn't really need it, either!

I did get a "light turkey" 6" sub sandwich for lunch, on a multigrain sub bun, at a nearby sub shop (a block away).  It wasn't Subway, but hey - it was snowing like crazy, with lots of wind and cold, so I wasn't going to Subway, which is much farther away.  I also ate an apple later.

Then I made my own 6" sub for dinner - this time using some thin sliced roast beef, mounds of veggies, a multigrain bun, some mustard and a bit of horseradish.  I had a glass of milk, and later, a container of Dannon's "fruit on the bottom" yogurt.

I did 45 minutes on the bike again, and am feeling fine as far as hunger and cravings and such.

HAPPYMAKER:  Uhm . . . let's see . . . well, obviously, I've got to start doing better at this part . . .

SlimFAST: Day 14, Cappy

Slimfast diet ratings!  I'm just going to go with what guidelines Cory posted to make things easier on myself and the reader. ;D
--EFFECTIVENESS: C
Did it work for weight loss? Um . . . I only lost about 3 pounds which, for two weeks and for someone who has as much to lose as I do . . . that's really not a whole heck of a lot for just starting out.  Granted, I didn't work out for half an hour every day, so I do realize I am at fault for this, too.  But still, I had hoped for more.
--EASE OF USE: A
Was the food easy to obtain and prepare and take to work and adapt to the everyday? Yes, very easy.  The only way it could have been easier was if I didn't have to prepare veggies for snacks and then prepare supper, but even having to do those things I was able to plan very easy and quick meals for supper that were still healthy.
--ENERGY LEVELS: C
Were energy levels high, or did it make us feel weak or tired? The only reason I give it a C is because it would have been nice if my energy levels had been higher.  I didn't necessarily feel more sluggish or tired, but eating less than I'm used to and eating healthier I would have expected to be feeling significantly better and/or with more energy.
--HUNGER FULFILLMENT AND CRAVINGS:  B
Were hunger levels and cravings reasonable, or terrible?  I didn't have much problem with this at all.  I think it helped for me that I was drinking a lot of water throughout the day, and the amount I ate for breakfast was about the same I always eat for breakfast, so it got each day started off right.
--OVERALL :  C
How was it overall?  It was very easy and pretty darn cheap, but I didn't lose as much as I wanted to lose, and I don't feel any better really than how I felt 2 weeks ago.  I know 2 weeks isn't really very long in being able to determine the effectiveness of a diet, but one would think that in the first week, at least, I could lose a decent amount of weight.
Would I do it again?  Probably not the whole diet plan, but I might do the shakes and the bars again, if I was feeling especially uncreative and was just wanting something quick and easy to eat for a while that I knew wasn't too unhealthy.

I'm curious to see how I do with the Subway diet.  I'm used to eating Subway once or twice a week for lunch anyways, so it's not going to be too much of a change from what I used to eat.  Like Cory, I do plan on making some modifications.  I'll eat probably a bowl of oatmeal with an egg's worth of scrambled egg beaters for breakfast, and for supper I'm planning on making my own sandwiches at home, to be eaten with a healthy salad.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Final Rating, Day 14, Cory

FINAL RATINGS
OK then!

Minus a final fruit snack I can have tonight if I want, I am done with our Slimfast diet!  So here are my ratings:

--EFFECTIVENESS: C
Did it work for weight loss? Pretty slow going, seems like.  I think that is because the Slimfast site makes a point of suggesting a calorie level that is "slow and steady," so they are not taking on liability by suggesting anything that could cause anyone health issues.  I'm sure if I had done the "shake for breakfast, shake for lunch, small sensible dinner" thing, without the snacks and small additional lunch items, I would have lost weight more quickly.
--EASE OF USE: A
Was the food easy to obtain and prepare and take to work and adapt to the everyday? It would be hard to be easier than this was. You buy shakes and meal bars, some fruit and veggies, some meat, some bread and potatoes .  I fixed the simple dinners quickly when I got home from work.
--ENERGY LEVELS: B
Were energy levels high, or did it make us feel weak or tired? No problem in this area.  I never felt weak or faint from the diet, or anything like that.  I wouldn't say I had "more energy" than usual, but I definitely didn't have less.
--HUNGER FULFILLMENT AND CRAVINGS:  B
Were hunger levels and cravings reasonable, or terrible?  Very little problem with this, other than that breakfast being so skimpy that I was really hungry when it was time for my mid-morning snack.  But there was a mid-morning snack, so not to bad.
--OVERALL :  B
How was it overall?  Well, this reminds me of what they say about ordering a product.  There are three possibilities:  Good, Cheap, and Quick.  You get to pick two out of three.  If you want it good and cheap, you can't have it quick.  Etc.  So I'm thinking with a diet, you can have Healthy, Easy, and Quick.  You get to  pick two out of three.  This one was "Healthy & Easy."  So it wasn't quick.

Would I do it again?  No, not really.  I mean, I think I can do this myself without the special shakes and what not.  I'd rather substitute a sensible meal with similar calorie count.

NEXT UP!

We've decided on the Subway diet, though I plan to modify a bit from what Jared did.  Jared did:  BREAKFAST: Coffee, LUNCH: 6" low cal chicken sub and bag of Baked Lays, DINNER: 12" Veggie Sub.  Both his subs had plenty of veggies, and he left off cheese and high-cal spreads like mayo.

I plan to do:
BREAKFAST:  Oatmeal with handful of berries, splash of milk, and tbs of brown sugar
LUNCH: 6" low cal sub (lunch meat and veggies) with piece of fruit
DINNER:  6" same type of sub, glass of milk
SNACK:  Yogurt

Also, I plan to make my own subs.  The Subway is across town and I'm not going there twice a day.  I can make them myself, no big deal.

Cappy may have her own modifications . . . or not. But I gotta have some breakfast, and I'd rather have a snack later than 12" sub at dinner.

SlimFAST: Day 13, Cappy

Whew!  I almost forgot to make a post.

Diet went well today, no cheating or splurging.  I slept like a sleeping monster most of the day--didn't wake up until almost noon (but to be fair, I stayed awake until almost 3:00am), then took a nap after being up for only a couple hours.  Apparently, I was really needing to catch up on my sleep.

I did the less difficult workout dvd today.  But at least I did something.  I wish I could watch tv stuff while working out, but I'm already watching the workout, so it'd be kind of difficult to do both. ;D

Happymaker of the day:  Sleep.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 13, Cory

Diet: No problem today.  Stayed home alone and did chores and such, surrounded by this frozen tundra, so not much to tempt me.

Exercise: I've been going through the only DVDs I have while riding the exercise bike: My Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV Series) DVDs. Seven seasons, and I'm watching one episode a night. I recommend this if you're trying to exercise - I mean, find something you like to watch, with no commercials, and watch. It really helps the time go by.

And Buffy's inspirational - she's a girl, underestimated at every turn. She's got huge responsibilities and - even though she has friends and family who love her and whom she loves - she has to face a really harsh world, ultimately, alone. She's funny, vulnerable, and flawed. She lives and learns and sometimes she has to learn something over and over until it sticks. She experiences a lot of loss and heartache; she ends up more afraid of love, than death. But she takes a lickin', and she keeps on tickin'. Depite all the losses, she wins.

Also, it's well written, well-acted, and the best part: FUNNY!

ONE MORE DAY!  Then on to our versions of the Subway diet.

Hope you had a good day, Cappy!   I'm enjoying reading your posts.

SlimFAST: Day 12, Cappy

Erm, I splurged for supper.  But I don't feel too guilty about it because I didn't eat as much as I wanted.  My nephew and his girlfriend came over to hang out and they wanted mexican food night, so we had tacos and nachos.  I only ate nachos and did not go back for seconds, so I feel that's some progress on the whole how to handle out-of-the-routine type situations.

But I also didn't do my workout because I overslept this morning and didn't have time to do it before they showed up tonight, and now that they've left I'm too tired.  I need to start being stricter with myself, but again, I'm okay with how I'm doing so far.

Back to the grindstone tomorrow!  I'm kind of excited to change up the diets and see if that makes any difference, especially since I've only lost a pound or two over the past 2 weeks.  *crosses fingers for bigger results*

Happymaker of the day:  It's Friday and I'm off tomorrow!  I shall be sleeping late and partaking of a good book and catching up on tv and working on my videos all weekend.  Along with exercising, of course. ;D

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 12, Cory

Yay!  Day 12 of 14!  Yes, I think we're gonna make it, Cappy.

Today was an odd day because I had a luncheon appointment, so I had to sorta switch lunch and dinner.  I had a grilled salmon salad and a piece of whole wheat bread at lunch . . . figuring that would be my "protien, veggies, and one starch" dinner.  Then I had my Slimfast drink and half-sandwich at dinner time.

Actually, it was a good experience, because I have to figure out a way to keep eating right, even when I'm invited out to meals or to events, etc.

I did my exercise - again, 45 minutes on the bike.  It is getting almost too easy, so I have again increased the resistance.

Cappy, we need to do something to spice this blog up!  Suggestions welcome from all!

Should we tell a deep dark secret, daily?  Provide the details of our most exciting close encounters of the first, second, third, and home-base kind?

SlimFAST: Day 11, Cappy

Diet:  I didn't eat as much in the way of veggies as I'm supposed to or I usually do, but I didn't fall off the diet, either.  This has been a fairly easy diet, all things considered, but I'll be glad to move onto the next one.  Also, so far I haven't really lost much at all, but my clothes feel like they fit a little differently, so maybe I'm losing something.  I dunno, all I know is that I'm eating healthier and getting more exercise, so that's better than eating junk and not exercising at all.  I could see myself getting frustrated sooner rather than later though, if I don't start seeing some progress on the scale soon.

I did not do a workout today.  I figured I'd give myself a day off in the middle of the week to give my muscles time to recuperate.  Back to it tomorrow!

Happymaker of the day:  Watching my favorite tv show and making friends laugh.  Also, discovering a new band that I really like.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 11, Cory

Well, I did OK with diet.  I am still not feeling well - stuffy nose, tiredness.  This morning, I still seemed on the downhill part, but now I feel like I'm starting to get better instead of worse.  I hope to go to work tomorrow.

Again, I did do a bit of exercising, but it made me feel tired and nauseated, so it probably wasn't that smart to do - but gosh, it's boring around here!  I even bundled up and went outside and cleared my front sidewalk and steps, and put some salt down.  I shouldn't have done that either, but geez, there is only so much sitting around and reading and such I can do.

Cappy and I are discussing our next diet and will be modifying the SUBWAY diet and trying it next.  More on that when we get to it.

CAPPY!  I wish you were here to bring me hot tea and just generally wait on me hand and foot.   But alas, my hands and feet must do their own waiting.

SlimFAST: Day 10, Cappy

Diet went well again today, same as usual.  Although, I am still hungry tonight.  The past two nights I had eaten a bowl of "healthy" chili for supper, and that was a lot more filling than tonight's supper of baby spinach leaves w/dressing, steamed veggies, and a Lean Cuisine dinner.  But, I drank a cup of green tea, and that seems to have helped the hunger for a bit.

I did the tough workout dvd for a third day in a row! \o/  I need to do more than just this 30 minute workout a day, but I'll concentrate on increasing my exercising once I've got myself entrenched in a routine.

Happymaker of the day:  Working through a personal self-esteem "demon" that I've struggled with all my life.  It's not solved or all better, but I was able to see the light on the other side of it, work my way through it, acknowledge why I was feeling the way I was feeling, and let it go.  That's the first time I've ever been able to do that, and it was very empowering.  And before you ask, yes, I actually could vague that up a bit more for you, believe it or not. ;D

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 10, Cory

Cappy!  We're into the double digits!  Yay, us!

I really appreciate you letting me ride on your broom coattails.

I was sick today, and stayed home from work.  Had a sore throat, and on-and-off slight fever, I think.  Also headache when I woke up, and stuffy nose.  Am hoping for "a cold" rather than "the flu."

I didn't want my Slimfast shake at all when I woke up, but I thought I'd better eat, and I slowly ate a meal-bar instead.  Later, I did get hungry for lunch and then dinner, and ate as usual.

Actually tried to do my exercising, mostly from the boredom of being cooped up in this ice-palace, and I did a bit.  Really tired me out, though.

I think I'll read and go to bed early.

CAPPY -are you thinking on our next diet?  I usually go grocery shopping on Saturday or Sunday.

SlimFAST: Day 9, Cappy

Did good on the diet, once again.  I've been lucky in that I haven't been in situations where I'm tempted by much.  I hope that by the time I face some sort of temptation my resilience will be strong enough to scoff at it.  Eh, who am I kidding--I know I can do it, it's just a matter of if I choose to do it.  I'm an extremely strong-willed and stubborn person (shut up, Cory) with a lot of spit-in-yer-eye gumption, so all I need to do is keep focused and keep my eye on the prize and I'll be good to go.

It's my second day in a row of doing the tougher workout dvd, so I'm obviously feeling pretty proud of myself at the moment.  And sore.  Ow.  But good, all the same.

We can do this, Cory!  I have faith in us.  Well, moreso me, but still, I'm sure you can do it if I let you ride my coattails.

Happymaker of the day:  Duh, second day in a row of tough workout.  I'M KING OF THE WORLD! \O/

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 9, Cory

No problem staying on the diet.  It is teaching me how to stay feeling full without eating things I shouldn't.  So I am anxious to move away from pre-prepared drinks and bars and try something with just plain healthy foods.

I did another 45 minutes on the bike, at the increased resistance.  I can really feel it in my legs, so I think that means I should stay at this resistance until it feels easy also.

And - I'm not feeling that great.  I have a bit of a sore throat and I wonder if I'm coming down with something.  I hope not.

Am going to take a shower and go to bed.  Will try to get my perky back tomorrow.  Cappy, you're gonna have to balance this with some cherry today!

SlimFAST: Day 8, Cappy

Very easy day with the diet.  Work was busy enough that I didn't think about cravings too much.  One problem that I could see having with this diet long-term (but really, I'd probably have this problem with every diet long-term) is falling into a rut.  I don't do a different meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day like it calls for because I'm just fixing food for myself, which means I'd have a lot of leftovers that would ruin and also I just do not have the time or the money to do that.  Which means I end up eating the same things a few days in a row.  It kind of makes me wonder if that hinders weight loss because it's letting your system get used to meals and therefore it isn't as much of a shock to your system?  I don't know, just a few thoughts I was having about it today.

I did actually do the harder workout dvd after work tonight, and I did it for 30 minutes, which I feel is a good start to the week.  Here's hoping I can keep it up.

Happymaker for the day:  It snowed here this morning!  Snow is rare 'round these parts.  It was pretty.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 8, Cory

Day good!

Unfortunately had to bring work home, and must start on it now.

Not much new to report other than I did fine with the eating, and again increased resistance on the bike a bit, and went up to 45 minutes.  I think I'm going to stick there, with 45 minutes, just gradually increasing resistance whenever I feel ready to do that.

Hope to write more tomorrow, but gotta get to the grindstone.

CAPPY: Hope all is well!

SlimFAST: Day 7, Cappy

Slept late today, had a lot of stuff to do on the computer, so before I knew it it was almost 2:00pm and I hadn't even eaten breakfast yet (no, I didn't sleep that late, but I had a couple cups of coffee and got distracted by work stuff and before I knew it, it was after 1:00pm).  So, I ate a very late brunch, then fixed a hearty chili recipe for supper that I got from the Slimfast website.  Very yummy!  Although, the recipe did not include any type of beans, and since I cannot imagine eating chili without beans, I added a can of kidney and a can of pinto beans.  Tasty stuff.

Alas, I did not work out today.  Bad Cappy.  But hey, I've gone a whole week without straying from the diet and without even being too hungry, so I'll give myself a pat on the back, and plan to do better with the workouts next week.

Happymaker of the day:  Being silly with friends.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 7, Cory

Half way done!

With the Slimfast diet, that is.  Cappy and I haven't decided on our next diet.  We've gotten some suggestions and are open to more suggestions - so if you have any ideas, comment below and let us know.

We're open to anything that isn't extreme and provides a balanced diet.

TODAY:  Went fine.  Upped my time on the exercise bike from 30 minutes to 40 minutes.

Have been doing indoor chores today and am feeling slightly down - trying to keep my mind off sad things. I will say this about the mega-challenges in life:  They give you perspective.  No way I can't handle learning to take better care of myself.

Happymaker:  I work in an office with 3 other people - they all went skiing this weekend, and I decided not to go.  However, I just texted them, asking if they all got home OK.  That way, they will think I care and everything!  :)

SLIMFAST: Day 6, Cappy

Did great with the diet.  No cheating or even temptation to cheat, and was able to vary things up a bit since I was off work today and didn't have much in the way of chores to do.

One good thing about buying lots of fresh veggies and fruit is the pressure I feel to eat it all before it goes bad.  I hate wasting food like that, so there's just not as much room in my tummy for less healthy stuff once I've eaten my servings of veggies. ;D

I only did twenty minutes of a workout, and it was the less strenuous dvd, so I'm not doing as awesome as I'd like with my exercising.  I have got to do better with that next week.  Exercise is just as, if not more, important than a healthy diet, I'm well aware of that.

Happymaker of the day:  Read a good story and played with my dogs.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 6, Cory

My exercise for today:  Snow shoveling for about an hour, so I could get out of my driveway and buy my Slimfast supplies for next week.

Getting ready for next week: I wasn't able to buy the multigrain bread I usually like to buy, because they were sold out.  I'm sure the snow predictions caused a rush to the grocery store last night, but believe it or not, the Slimfast supplies were not sold out!  So I have everything I need to outdo Cappy at every turn get through next week.

Today:  I was really hungry after snow shoveling, and ate my lunch early (around 11:15 or so), but my mid-afternoon carrot snack carried me through to dinnertime.  Had a sort of chicken stew I made from a small piece of chicken breast, a small red potato, and lots of veggies.

Happymaker:  Shoveled extra room in my driveway, so my sis could come by and park comfortably.  Had some laughs with her.

SLIMFAST: Day 5, Cappy

Did good with the diet again today, but not great.  My problem isn't really falling off of it so far, it's just making myself eat a snack during the afternoon when I'm at work.  And, I'm not mixing it up as well as I should--I've resorted to eating cereal for supper the past two nights instead of cooking a meal.  The cereal I eat is Fiber One and it's with skim milk, so it's not like it's unhealthy, but still, it's not balanced (even though I have eaten a salad with it each night, as well).  I need to work on putting in the extra effort to cook meals next week.

I was really feeling the temptation to fall off the diet today.  I was stressed from work and tired and was in that "reward myself for surviving the week" mode that usually always makes me give in and splurge, but I stuck to my guns and did not stray.

I am so sore from that workout dvd from yesterday that I didn't exercise today.  But I will work out more tomorrow and Sunday to make up for the lack of exercise today.

Very tiring but overall good first week of this new experience.

Happymaker of the day:  Getting new editing software for my iMac.

Stressmaker of the day:  Realizing how much I have to learn about how to use said editing software.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 5, Cory

Alrighty!

I can't believe I've gone 5 days, and exercised every day!  I increased the resistance again and did 30 minutes on my stationary bike.

I did fine with my eating, finishing my last "yogurt for lunch."  I'm going to have a half sandwich instead all week, next week.

Big storm predicted to snow us in this weekend - and I only have enough Slimfast supplies to last through Sunday, since I figured, "one week at a time."  Oh, well . . . if I can't get to the grocey store, I can always walk over to the convenience store down the block.

How many Slim Jims equal one Slimfast meal bar?

My Happymaker today:  Some good laughs with co-workers.

SLIMFAST: Day 4, Cappy

I've started adjusting when I eat to suit my metabolism a bit more.  I'm eating what's on the diet and the amounts given but, for instance, I haven't needed a mid-morning snack, but in the afternoons, especially after a light lunch, I sometimes need more than 1 mini-snack.  So, unless I'm feeling hungry, I've decided to have two mini-snacks in the afternoon and to lose the morning snack.

The diet went well today.  Except I ate 3 mini-chocolate chip cookies.  I was wanting to eat A LOT more though, so I'm proud of how I did with the temptation.

And, I did a workout dvd that I haven't used in over a year.  My arms and legs are like wet limp noodles now, so I'm pretty sure tomorrow I will barely be able to move.  But, I know once I get past this initial pain and soreness that I'll be able to do the dvd and function normally--I did it before and I'll do it again.  It's a very good dvd, focusing on cardio and strength training, and also doing a lot of core training, which I really need.

Happymaker for the day:  Watching my favorite tv show and squeeing about it with friends and family.

Cappy

SLIMFAST: Day 4, Cory

WHAT I'VE LEARNED:
  • I need a bigger breakfast.  Whether it's the shake or the meal bar, I get really, really hungry by lunch time, even with an orange for a snack.  I'm gonna stick with the SLIMFAST diet as is, for the two week run, but I want to find something with a more substantial breakfast for whatever we do next.
  • Blogging is a big help in resisting temptation.  When I think of cheating, I remember that if I do cheat, I have two choices:  Tell everyone of lapse on the blog OR Lie to Cappy and everyone else who follows the blog (OK, so 5 people, but I like our followers!  Plus, one day, multitudes! :) ).  And I don't wanna do either one.  What I mean is - with the blogging, cheating comes with an even bigger price than usual!  That helps.
  • The exercising is helping a bit, with some insomnia issues I've had lately.
  • Cappy is gonna do great, because she's too mean to give up!  Who woulda ever guessed this particular characteristic would come in handy for anything other than bar fights?  Go, Cappy!
MINI-REPORT:  This is gonna get repetitive, so basically, with very minor alterations, my diet and exercise today was the same as yesterday.  Happymaker . . . uhm . . . I sent a Happy Birthday IM to a friend!  I'm gonna have to do better on that part.  I WILL DO BETTER!

SLIMFAST: Day 3, Cappy

Breakfast:  shake and oatmeal

Mid-morning snack:  I forgot to eat one! /o\  The morning just got away from me, and between a cup of green tea and a cup of coffee, I just didn't get hungry enough to be reminded to eat.  I know that's not good because I need to eat something every few hours to keep my blood sugar steady, so I'm going to do my best to not forget anymore.

Lunch:  shake and peanut butter sandwich, with whole wheat bread and low-fat peanut butter

Afternoon snack:  Banana

Supper: leftover chicken veggie stir fry with brown rice, 1 slimfast snack bar

Workout:  25 minutes with exercise dvd (should have done 30 minutes, but I'll do better tomorrow)

I did finally go grocery shopping this afternoon and bought enough provisions to hopefully last me a while.  The slimfast 100 calorie snack bars are TINY!  I think I'd be more satisfied eating 100 calories worth of fruit than these itty bitty little things, but at least now I know what they're like.

Energy levels were way better today than they have been all week, probably due to having finally gotten caught up on my sleep.

Did not feel really hungry or that I was depriving myself at any point during the day today.  Yayness!

Happymaker:  Ummm . . . I took a picture of myself with my computer's webcam to show my hair to a friend and didn't cringe from the horribleness of it, which is a huge deal for me, considering how much I hate having my picture taken.  Baby steps.

Cappy
